The DNA results for my husband are finally back. It's like Christmas at the Eckman House today!
I had wanted to get his DNA results (from Ancestry.com) so that I could go in one of two directions. His family swears they have Native American blood and admittedly it IS a good story. I however did not, after doing some research on that particular line, believe that they do. In part these results will tell me whether I head to New York to trace the alleged Native American OR if we can finally drop that story. Well ... story is dropped! That said, I do have to admit the results were not entirely what I expected.
Hubby is 99% European and ... here's the surprise ... <1% Asian. South Asian to be specific. That area includes: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
6% Great Britain
4% Italy/Greece
3% Finland/Northwest Russia
3% Iberian Peninsula
1% Scandinavian
Europe West includes Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. No surprise there!
Ireland consists of Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Great Britain is comprised of England, Scotland and Wales. Again, no surprise for these two regions.
Italy/Greece kind of surprised me however Ancestry.com does state that those backgrounds are also found in France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia, Romania, Turkey, Slovenia, Algeria, Tunisia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, and Kosovo.
Finland and Northwest Russia were not expected although looking at migration practices, they are not a complete surprise either. The Iberian Peninsula, I admit, was another surprise. This area is mostly Spain and Portugal. It is also found in France, Morocco, Algeria, and Italy. That kind of ties in with some of the other finds.
Scandinavia did not surprise me, especially after having read my results earlier and again learning the migratory practices. Scandinavia is comprised of Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It is also found in Great Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, the Baltic States, and Finland.
So I guess they do have some Indian blood after all (just not Native American). Now ... onto the next mystery/story!
